Mike Howie says a new air of positive energy is blowing through Buenos Aires…and it means great things for the Kiwi traveller…

For New Zealanders it means after a direct flight from Auckland, you will arrive at one of the most stylish, sophisticated cities in the world. Once there, you’ll be charmed by a city steeped in early turn-of-the century European architecture, with a plethora of boutique shops, with fashionable shopping malls brimming with stylish attire and high-end leather goods. As the saying goes, Argentines are just Italians who speak Spanish, and like their European cousins, they share an uninhibited passion for fashion.

Between bouts of exploring this perfect walking city, and recovering from the city’s love of late-late nights, you can enjoy culinary experiences that range from the cute, corner Italian family-style eatery to exquisite fine-dining experiences .Always however, is the emphasis on super-sized slabs of steak and generous glasses of Malbec. Most importantly, as a holiday destination Buenos Aires is excellent value, with the New Zealand dollar worth well over double the Argentine peso.

Ok, so you’ve done several Spanish night classes at the local high school and you’re off to Buenos Aires …now what? Well be prepared for something more than tango and steak.
