The Andes Horse Trek…
We’ve just arrived back from the inaugural 3 Day Andes Horse Trek. This Trek is to be added as a third Howdy Buenos Aires Itinerary to include Buenos Aires, Uruguay (day trip) and the Mendoza wine region.

Horse Trek to Cordon del Plata
Day 1
Two Valleys
La Carrera (Tupungato) – Altos Potrerillos (Luján de Cuyo)
Reception at Estancia La Alejandra with brunch and briefing and introductions by your guide and familiarization with equipment and horses. On the first day’s ride (approx 3-4 hours) we head north at a very gentle pace along La Carrera, until we reach portezuela of La Ollada at the foot of The Andes. We stop for a country lunch in the perfect spot to offer striking view of the Andes Cordon del Plata Range as well as the massive Potrerillos dam. We contine north descending via winding paths to the valley of Potrerillos and the short ride to our lodge accommodation. Dinner and overnight stay in the lodge.
Day 2
To the heights
Altos Potrerillos – Vallecitos
After breakfast we prepare the horses and equipment – and then head west through the paths, crossing the steep valley that offers fantastic views of the imposing mountain ranges. After an asado (bbq) and a glass of wine we continue west gently climbing to 2.600 metres arriving to San Antonio Refuge in time for a short rest before dinner.
Day 3
Heights of the Plata
Superior Veguitas
Following breakfast we begin the ascent following the ‘Arroyo Blanco’ (White Stream) trail until we arrive to the imposing valley of the ¨Veguitas¨ (3.400 metres). After a snack and a break to appreciate the vista we then descend to San Antonio passing through the Vallecitos and a return to the Refugio. After a farewell lunch we return to Mendoza City in the mid-afternoon.
The are of Cordon del Plata is a popular area for climbers and snow climbers because it offers a good variety of peaks with the highest peak being 5930 meters. It’s situated in the Mendoza Province.
